Fort Kochi Beach

Fort Kochi Beach lies on the historic waterfront of Fort Kochi in Ernakulam district, Kerala, and offers a different experience from Kerala’s long swimming beaches. Its appeal comes from the combination of sea views, heritage surroundings and everyday harbour life. Kerala Tourism highlights the Chinese fishing nets, the adjoining Vasco da Gama Square, the granite walkway, greenery and views of ships moving through the waters off Kochi.

Remnants connected with Fort Immanuel can also be seen in the beach area, linking the shoreline directly with the Portuguese period of the city’s history. The waterfront becomes especially atmospheric toward evening, when visitors gather for a walk and the setting sun silhouettes the fishing nets. Fort Kochi Beach is also associated with the annual Cochin Carnival around New Year.

Because major heritage attractions are close together, the beach works well as the coastal end of a walking route through Fort Kochi.
