Garuda Temple at Triprangode, also known as Vellamassery Garudan Kavu or Thiru Vellamassery Garudan Temple, is one of the most unusual pilgrimage attractions in Malappuram district. Keralam Tourism describes it as India’s only major temple dedicated to Garuda, the mythical bird and divine mount of Lord Vishnu. The temple is located at Triprangode on the Chamravattom Road in the Tirur region and is set within a traditional Keralam temple environment.
A second point of interest is the shrine associated with Vishnu in Koormavatara, the tortoise incarnation, which adds another uncommon element to the complex. Keralam Tourism also highlights the temple’s traditional architecture, woodwork and rituals connected with Garuda, along with the annual Garuda Jayanthi celebrations. For visitors, the destination offers a combination of pilgrimage, mythology, architecture and local cultural practice rather than large-scale sightseeing facilities.
