Indo-Portuguese Museum

The Indo-Portuguese Museum is located within the Bishop’s House premises at Fort Kochi in Ernakulam district, Kerala. Established to preserve the region’s Indo-Portuguese cultural heritage, the museum brings together objects from churches and religious institutions connected with the Portuguese influence on Kochi. Kerala Tourism describes the collection under five broad sections: Altar, Treasure, Procession, Civil Life and Cathedral.

Exhibits include carved religious objects, metalwork, vestments, processional pieces and other artefacts that help explain how European forms interacted with Kerala craftsmanship and Christian traditions. The museum also preserves remnants associated with Fort Immanuel in its basement, creating a direct link with the early Portuguese fortifications of Kochi. Although compact compared with larger state museums, it offers useful context for nearby landmarks such as Santa Cruz Basilica, St.
