INS Dronacharya Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum is located within the premises of INS Dronacharya in Fort Kochi, Ernakulam district, Kerala. Kerala Tourism notes that the museum was established in 2001 and is housed in two fortified ammunition bunkers built before the Second World War, making the setting itself part of the experience. One section focuses on Kerala’s maritime history, including ancient trade links and the development of ports and sea routes, while another follows the history and evolution of the Indian Navy.

Models, artefacts, ceremonial objects, uniforms, paintings and interpretive displays help connect early Indian seafaring with the modern naval era. The museum is particularly relevant in Kochi, a city whose identity has been shaped by harbour trade and strategic maritime importance for centuries.
