Why this place stands out
Karlad Lake is a natural freshwater lake near Thariode in Wayanad, close to Banasura Sagar Dam and home to the DTPC-supported Wayanad Adventure Camp with water and outdoor activities.
Karlad Lake is a natural freshwater lake in the Thariode area of Wayanad district, Keralam, and one of the district's best-known places for combining water scenery with organized adventure activities. Keralam Tourism places the lake about 8 km from Vythiri and around 3 km from Banasura Sagar Dam. The Wayanad Adventure Camp at Karlad is operated through DTPC Wayanad and has offered activities such as kayaking, ziplining, boating, rock climbing, nature walking and bamboo rafting.
That mix allows visitors to choose between an active outing and a slower lakeside experience. The surrounding hills, vegetation and calm water make Karlad appealing for families, photographers and travellers exploring the Banasura region. Keralam Tourism also describes Karlad as a natural lake traditionally believed to have formed after a landslide centuries ago.
Since water-based activities may depend on weather, safety arrangements and current operations, checking locally before arrival is sensible.
