Kuthampully Handloom Village is a traditional weaving settlement in Thrissur district, Keralam, closely associated with the state’s iconic kasavu textiles. Keralam Tourism traces the local weaving tradition to artisans who are believed to have been brought from Karnataka by the former rulers of Cochin in the eighteenth century. Over generations, weaving became deeply rooted in village life, and the Kuthampully Handloom Industrial Co-operative Society was established in 1972 to support the craft and its practitioners.
Visitors can see handlooms in homes and workshops and learn how traditional Keralam garments are produced through patient, skilled work. Popular products include kasavu sarees, veshti, double mundu and set mundu, recognised for their simple elegance and characteristic gold-bordered designs. The village setting near the Bharathappuzha adds another layer to the experience, making Kuthampully attractive for travellers interested in craft tourism, responsible shopping and rural Keralam culture.
