Why this place stands out

Kuttanad is a large backwater and paddy-growing region of Alappuzha district, Keralam, famous for its low-lying fields, waterways, village landscapes and distinctive wetland agriculture.

Kuttanad is a broad wetland region spread across the backwater country of Alappuzha and adjoining parts of central Keralam. In Alappuzha district it is especially associated with extensive paddy cultivation, canals, rivers and settlements built within a landscape shaped by water management. The region is widely known as the Rice Bowl of Keralam, and parts of its agricultural land lie below mean sea level, making Kuttanad's farming practices one of its most distinctive features.

For visitors, Kuttanad is best understood as a landscape rather than a single sightseeing point. Boat journeys reveal paddy fields, bunds, canals, village jetties and homes close to the water, while road routes pass through farming settlements and bridges across the waterways. Kainakary and the reclaimed Q, S, T and R Block Kayal areas offer particularly useful glimpses of the region's character.

Because Kuttanad covers a large area rather than one precise postal location, this record intentionally does not assign a single PIN code to the whole destination.
