Parambikulam Tiger Reserve lies in the forested southern part of Palakkad district and forms an important wildlife landscape along the Keralam–Tamil Nadu border. The reserve includes moist and dry deciduous forests, evergreen patches, grasslands and reservoirs that support tigers, Asian elephants, gaur, deer, primates and a rich bird population. One of its best-known natural landmarks is the ancient Kannimara teak, celebrated as one of the region’s remarkable old teak trees.
Parambikulam is also recognised for community-linked ecotourism, where organised programmes are designed around wildlife conservation, guided interpretation and responsible access to the forest. Depending on current Forest Department arrangements, visitor experiences can include regulated vehicle trips, nature trails, viewpoints and reservoir-side landscapes. The reserve is geographically unusual for Keralam travellers because practical road access commonly approaches through the Pollachi side of Tamil Nadu.
