Ponmudi Dam is a Panniyar Hydroelectric Project reservoir in Konnathady, Idukki, built across the Panniyar River and surrounded by scenic high-range plantation country.
Ponmudi Dam is a masonry gravity dam across the Panniyar River in Idukki district, Keralam. Keralam State Electricity Board’s Dam Safety Organisation identifies the dam site at Ponmudi in Konnathady Panchayat and Konnathady village. It forms part of the Panniyar Hydroelectric Project, receiving water downstream of the Anayirankal system and supplying water for power generation at Panniyar Power Station.
For travellers, the reservoir adds quiet water scenery to the plantation and hill landscape between Adimali, Rajakkad and the Munnar side of Idukki. Keralam Tourism’s Idukki material places Ponmudi Dam near Sreenarayanapuram, while DTPC Idukki includes it in its Village Tour along with Sengulam, Ripple Waterfalls and other nearby attractions.
Konnathady is now part of Idukki taluk, correcting older records that place Ponmudi under Udumbanchola. India Post lists Ponmudi BO under PIN 685563. The coordinates used here come directly from KSEB Dam Safety data. Public access can be affected by dam operations, water levels or safety restrictions, so visitors should use authorised viewing areas and obey all local warnings.
