Sengulam Dam

Sengulam Dam is a masonry gravity dam in Vellathooval Panchayat, Idukki, forming the balancing reservoir of the Sengulam Hydroelectric Project. Close to the Munnar–Chithirapuram tourism belt, the reservoir is also promoted by DTPC for boating. Green hills, calm water and its hydropower history make Sengulam a relaxed engineering-and-nature stop away from Munnar’s busiest viewpoints.

Sengulam Dam, also encountered in some records as Chenkulam Dam, is a masonry gravity dam in Vellathooval village and panchayat of Idukki district, Keralam. KSEB’s Dam Safety Organisation records the structure as part of the Sengulam Hydroelectric Project and identifies its reservoir as receiving water connected with the tailwaters of the Pallivasal power system.

The reservoir is also part of Idukki’s visitor circuit. DTPC Idukki includes Sengulam Dam and boating in its Village Tour from Munnar, making it a quieter water-based alternative to the more crowded Mattupetty route. The setting combines reservoir views with plantation hills and the broader Chithirapuram–Anachal landscape.

India Post lists Sengulam BO under PIN 685565, correcting older source data that used Vellathooval’s 685563 PIN for the attraction. Vellathooval village is in Devikulam taluk. The latitude and longitude in this CSV are converted directly from KSEB’s published dam coordinates. Boating and public access depend on current operating conditions, and visitors should stay within authorised tourism areas near the reservoir.
