Soochipara Waterfalls

Soochipara Waterfalls is a well-known waterfall attraction near Vellarimala and Meppadi in Wayanad, also referred to as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. DTPC Wayanad describes it as a three-tier cascade set within dense forest and rugged rock formations. The name Soochipara is linked to the needle-like appearance of the surrounding rock, while the steep cliff environment has also made the area associated with rock-climbing interest.

Visitors approach the waterfall through the green highland landscape, and the combination of forest, exposed rock and rushing water makes the journey especially attractive after periods of good rainfall. As with any natural waterfall in the Western Ghats, water volume and access conditions can change sharply by season. Rocks can be slippery, currents can be dangerous and local authorities may restrict bathing or entry during heavy rain, so posted safety instructions should always take priority.

Soochipara is an excellent stop for travellers staying around Meppadi who want to combine waterfalls with tea-country drives, hill scenery and other south Wayanad attractions. It is best appreciated as a nature destination rather than simply a swimming spot.
