Conolly’s Plot

Conolly's Plot is a historic teak plantation near Nilambur town in Malappuram district and one of the most important sites connected with organised forestry in Kerala. The plantation dates to 1846 and was developed under the direction of H. V.

Conolly, then Collector of Malabar, with pioneering work by Chathu Menon. Kerala Tourism identifies it as the world's oldest teak plantation and describes the site as a living record of the beginnings of systematic teak cultivation in the region. The surviving protected area lies in a lush setting associated with the Chaliyar and Kurinjipuzha rivers, giving the heritage plantation a strong natural character in addition to its historical value.

Mature teak trees, the calm riverside environment and the surrounding Nilambur forest landscape make the visit particularly rewarding for travellers interested in ecology, colonial-era forestry and conservation. Conolly's Plot also pairs naturally with the nearby Nilambur Teak Museum, where visitors can learn more about teak science and plantation history before or after seeing the trees themselves.
