Manikkinar

Manikkinar is one of the historic sites that make up the Mamankam monument landscape around Kodakkal and Thirunavaya in Malappuram district, Kerala. Malappuram District Administration places it on the Kodakkal–Alathiyur Road and associates the site with the aftermath of battles connected with Mamankam. Kerala’s Revenue Department also identifies Manikkinar as a well tied to the memory of fallen warriors.

Because official accounts differ in some of the details attached to the well, the safest way to understand the site is as a surviving place-memory of the conflicts that came to surround Mamankam. Manikkinar is not a large standalone attraction; its importance becomes clearer when visited with Nilapadu Thara, Marunnara, Changampalli Kalari and Pazhukkamandapam. Together these monuments turn the Thirunavaya area into an open heritage landscape where visitors can trace different functions and stories connected with the old festival.
