Kurisumala is a Christian pilgrimage hill in Vagamon, Idukki, associated with Kurisumala Ashram and Easter observances, set within the green Western Ghats landscape of the wider Vagamon hill station.
Kurisumala is one of the three spiritually important hills traditionally associated with the Vagamon landscape in Idukki district, Keralam. Keralam Tourism identifies it as a Christian pilgrimage centre and describes the Kurisumala Ashram, a monastic community established in the twentieth century, as an important part of the area’s identity. The hill becomes especially significant during the Easter season, when pilgrims visit for religious observances.
Outside major pilgrimage periods, the surrounding green slopes and cool mountain setting give Kurisumala a quieter atmosphere suited to reflection and walking. The wider Vagamon region is known for the symbolic grouping of Kurisumala, Thangal Hill and Murugan Hill, representing Christian, Muslim and Hindu traditions respectively. Visitors should respect worship, monastic spaces and any access guidance in force at the time of travel.
Together with the surrounding meadows and hill roads, Kurisumala offers visitors a distinctive mix of pilgrimage, monastic history and the peaceful scenery for which Vagamon is known.
