About Vasthuvidya Gurukulam
Vasthuvidya Gurukulam is located at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district, Keralam, close to the cultural landscape of the Pampa River and the Aranmula temple town. Functioning under the Department of Culture, Government of Keralam, the institution was established to preserve and promote traditional architecture, Vasthuvidya and mural painting. Its work extends beyond teaching: the Gurukulam undertakes architectural consultancy, conservation, research, documentation of heritage structures, mural projects and training programmes.
An art gallery and displays connected with Keralam’s built heritage help make the centre useful for students, designers, artists and curious travellers. Aranmula is itself known for the Aranmula Kannadi, the Uthrattathi boat race and a strong tradition of craftsmanship, so the Gurukulam fits naturally into a cultural itinerary through the region. It is a distinctive Pathanamthitta attraction for visitors who want to understand the principles behind Keralam’s traditional architecture rather than simply view a historic building.
