Bonacaud Estate and Forest

Bonacaud, also written Bonakkad, is a former tea-estate and forest settlement in the Agasthya foothills of Nedumangad taluk, Thiruvananthapuram district. Keralam Tourism traces the area’s plantation history to the British period and describes old estate structures, tea landscapes, forest, waterfalls and wide views as key parts of its character. Today Bonacaud is particularly important as a gateway toward regulated trekking destinations such as Agasthyarkoodam and Pandipathu, while the surrounding woodland also attracts birdwatchers and travellers looking for a cooler, quieter Western Ghats outing.

Remnants of the plantation era give the place a heritage atmosphere quite different from a conventional hill resort. Some areas are remote and forest permissions may apply, so visitors should check current access before setting out and avoid entering abandoned structures or restricted land. Bonacaud is best experienced slowly, with attention to the landscape, estate history and conservation value of the adjoining forests.
