Cheruthuruthy River Bank

Cheruthuruthy River Bank refers to the scenic banks of the Bharathapuzha, or Nila, at Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur district, Kerala. The riverside is deeply connected with Kerala’s cultural history because Kerala Kalamandalam, the renowned institution for Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kutiyattam and other performing arts, was established here on the banks of the Nila in 1930. The river itself gives Cheruthuruthy a distinctive open landscape of sandbanks, seasonal water channels and village views.

This is not a single fenced attraction, so the experience is best approached as a peaceful riverside stop for landscape photography, reflection and an appreciation of the surroundings that influenced Kerala’s modern performing-arts revival. Water levels and access to exposed banks change significantly between summer and monsoon. Visitors should stay on safe public approaches, avoid entering strong currents and combine the river view with a visit to nearby Kerala Kalamandalam or other Cheruthuruthy cultural sites.
