Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park is a protected high-range landscape near Munnar in Idukki district, extending across about 97 square kilometres of the southern Western Ghats. Established as a national park in 1978, it is best known for conserving the endangered Nilgiri tahr and for its distinctive mosaic of rolling montane grasslands and shola forests. Anamudi, the highest peak in South India at 2,695 metres, rises within the park.

The protected area is also one of the celebrated landscapes for Neelakurinji, a shrub whose mass flowering periodically turns sections of the hills blue. Tourism is concentrated around the Rajamala visitor zone, where the open grassland scenery and chances of observing Nilgiri tahr are major draws. Because this is a sensitive wildlife habitat, visitor access and seasonal restrictions are governed by the Forest Department.

Eravikulam is an essential nature and wildlife stop on a Munnar itinerary and an important conservation site in Keralam.
