Hosdurg Fort

Hosdurg Fort is located in Kanhangad in Kasaragod district and represents an important surviving layer of the region’s Nayaka-era military history. The fort is generally associated with the Ikkeri or Keladi rulers, whose influence extended across parts of the northern Keralam coast. Today, visitors encounter the remains of laterite fortifications rather than a complete royal complex, but the distinctive rounded bastions still communicate the defensive purpose of the site.

Its position within the Kanhangad area makes Hosdurg Fort relatively easy to combine with other attractions in southern Kasaragod. Keralam Tourism also notes the proximity of Nithyananda Ashram, adding a spiritual landmark to the surrounding visitor circuit. For travellers interested in forts, local history and architecture, Hosdurg offers a quieter and more compact heritage experience than Bekal while helping explain the wider network of fortified sites that once protected this part of the Malabar coast.
