Mamankam Monuments

The Mamankam Monuments form a group of historic sites in and around Thirunavaya, Malappuram district, Keralam, connected with the celebrated Mamankam or Mamangam festival. Malappuram District Administration records that Mamankam was held at intervals of twelve years on the banks of the Bharathapuzha and became an important medieval gathering involving trade, ceremony and political power. Keralam government planning records identify the protected Mamankam memorial group as Changampalli Kalari, Pazhukkamandapam, Nilapadu Thara, Marunnara and Manikkinar.

Rather than a single building, the attraction is best understood as a heritage circuit spread across the Thirunavaya–Kodakkal area. Each site represents a different aspect of the old festival landscape, from ceremonial space and royal viewing to military training and wartime storage. Exploring the monuments alongside the Bharathapuzha and Thirunavaya’s temple heritage gives visitors a deeper understanding of Malabar’s medieval political and cultural history.
