Methan Mani Clock

Methan Mani Clock stands on the eastern side of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple precinct in East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram. Keralam Tourism dates the historic clock to 1833, during the reign of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal. Its unusual mechanical display has made it a long-loved local curiosity: the clock face features a man with two goat figures positioned beside him, and on the hour the mechanism animates the scene as the goats strike the figure’s cheeks while the clock chimes.

The timepiece is associated with the old Fort Palace area and is traditionally said to have been crafted in mahogany. Methan Mani is a small landmark rather than a destination requiring a long visit, but it adds character to an East Fort heritage circuit that already includes the temple, Kuthiramalika Palace and old fort gateways. Visitors can view it from the surrounding public area, while respecting the busy religious and civic environment of the precinct.
