Oorpazhachi Kavu

Oorpazhachi Kavu is an old temple complex at Edakkad, roughly within the Kannur coastal region of Kerala. The shrine is notable for a combination of local religious traditions, sacred-grove character and ritual practices associated with North Malabar. Bhagavathy, Oorpazhachi Daivathar and Vettakkorumakan are among the principal deities connected with the temple, and Kerala Tourism’s heritage documentation highlights the unusual Shaiva-Vaishnava character of the sanctum.

The daily Daivathar Vellattom tradition is one of the features that gives the kavu a strong living-ritual identity.
