Pazhassi Dam

Pazhassi Dam is a major irrigation and tourism landmark in Kannur district, Kerala, built across the Valapattanam River. Kerala Tourism describes it as a stone-masonry diversion dam, while DTPC Kannur notes that it is also known as Kulur Barrage and identifies it as the first major irrigation project in Northern Kerala. The dam was commissioned in 1979 and remains important both for water management and as a scenic public destination.

Visitors come for views across the reservoir and dam structure, as well as the landscaped Pazhassi Garden developed beside it. Walkways, children's recreation, boating facilities and an amphitheatre broaden the experience beyond simple sightseeing. The destination lies along the Mattannur-Iritty side of Kannur district and works well as a family picnic stop or as part of a route exploring the inland river landscapes of North Kerala.

Its combination of engineering history, water scenery and garden recreation gives Pazhassi Dam a different character from Kannur's better-known beaches and heritage sites.
