Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple

Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple is an important Hindu pilgrimage centre at Kadampuzha in Malappuram district. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kiratha Parvathy and is distinctive because there is no conventional idol in the sanctum; daily worship is offered at a sacred cavity associated with the presence of the Goddess. Kerala Tourism records the traditional belief that Adi Shankaracharya established the shrine after experiencing the divine presence here.

Two offerings are especially associated with Kadampuzha: Poomoodal, in which the sacred space is covered with Thecchi flowers, and Muttarukkal, a ritual involving the breaking of coconuts. These practices attract devotees throughout the year and give the temple a devotional identity different from many other Kerala shrines. The temple lies within Tirur taluk and is accessible from the Kuttippuram and Vettichira side of Malappuram.
