Tirur River

Tirur River, locally known as Tirurpuzha, is one of the principal rivers of southern Malappuram district, Keralam. Malappuram District Administration describes it as approximately 48 kilometres long, beginning in the Athavanad hills, flowing through Thirunavaya and around Tirur, and eventually joining the Bharathapuzha near Ponnani. The river therefore connects several of the district’s best-known cultural landscapes, including Thirunavaya’s sacred riverbanks, Tirur town and the backwater-estuary environment toward the coast.

Keralam Tourism also highlights the river around Vakkad, where backwater cruises reveal mangroves and coastal scenery before the waterway reaches the Arabian Sea system. Visitors can experience different sections from bridges, riverbanks and recognised boating points rather than expecting one single attraction entrance.
