Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary

Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected forest landscape in Kozhikode district, Keralam, associated with the Kakkayam and adjoining Western Ghats region. Keralam Forest Department information records the sanctuary at approximately 74.215 square kilometres and lists its formation in 2009. The protected area was created for the ecological, floral and faunal importance of this high-rainfall forest belt.

For travellers, the sanctuary is best approached through authorised eco-tourism and forest access arrangements rather than as an unrestricted sightseeing area. The wider Kakkayam landscape includes forested hills, reservoir scenery, streams and trekking environments, while Keralam Tourism emphasises the biodiversity and natural character of this part of eastern Kozhikode.
