About Sree Vilwadrinatha Temple

Sree Vilwadrinatha Temple is a major spiritual and heritage attraction at Thiruvilwamala in Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple stands on Vilwadri Hill and is dedicated to Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana, with twin double-storeyed sreekovils forming a distinctive part of the shrine. Kerala Tourism also notes the rare Pathalanjana Sila used for the prominent Rama idol and the calm hilltop setting that gives the temple a strong sense of place.

A short distance away is the famous Punarjani Cave, a roughly 150-metre passage through Bhoothathanmala. By tradition, passage through the cave is permitted only once a year, on Guruvayur Ekadasi, when large numbers of devotees gather for the ritual. The combination of temple architecture, mythology, hill scenery and the unusual cave tradition makes Thiruvilwamala an important stop for visitors interested in Kerala pilgrimage routes and sacred landscapes.

Visitors should follow temple dress rules and local instructions, particularly during festival periods.
