Chandragiri Fort and River

Chandragiri Fort occupies an elevated position near the Chandragiri River in Kasaragod district, where river scenery, estuary views and coastal history come together. The fort is associated with the 17th-century Keladi Nayaka period and reflects the strategic importance of this northern Keralam region when control of river and coastal routes mattered greatly. Although the structure survives mainly as a historic fort complex rather than a fully intact palace, its laterite walls and commanding position help visitors understand why the site was chosen.

From the higher ground, the Chandragiri River and the landscape toward the Arabian Sea create some of the destination’s strongest visual appeal. The river itself adds a softer natural dimension to a visit centred on military history.
