East Fort Heritage Precinct

East Fort Heritage Precinct forms one of the most historically layered parts of Thiruvananthapuram, Keralam. The area grew around the fortified royal and temple quarter of the former Travancore capital and remains centred on the monumental eastern gateway and Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Keralam Tourism notes that the prominent eastern fort gateway dates to the reign of Marthanda Varma, while the wider precinct includes palace buildings, additional gates, traditional streets and cultural landmarks such as Methan Mani.

The setting is not a sealed archaeological zone; shops, worship, local traffic and daily city life continue around its heritage fabric. That makes East Fort particularly rewarding for visitors who enjoy exploring history in a living urban environment. Kuthiramalika Palace, temple architecture, old royal compounds and nearby cultural institutions can be combined into a compact heritage circuit.
