Eyyal Burial Cave

Eyyal Burial Cave is a protected megalithic rock-cut burial monument in Eyyal village, within the Kunnamkulam taluk area of Thrissur district, Kerala. The National Monuments Authority records its exact location and describes Eyyal as part of Kadangode Grama Panchayat in Chowannur Block. Archaeological documentation identifies the site as a double-chambered burial cave cut into laterite, part of the wider Iron Age funerary tradition for which Thrissur is especially important.

Finds from the Eyyal area, including ancient coins, have further strengthened the locality’s archaeological reputation. The cave is not a conventional leisure attraction; its interest lies in the original rock-cut plan, burial context and the opportunity to understand a much earlier layer of Kerala history. Visitors should approach it as a protected heritage site, avoid touching or damaging surfaces, keep the surroundings clean and follow any Archaeological Survey of India or local access restrictions.
