The sandalwood areas lie within a wider rain-shadow environment of dry woodland, rocky slopes, sugarcane fields and settlements along the Munnar–Marayoor corridor.

The destination works especially well as part of a Marayoor heritage day that also includes the muniyara dolmens, local jaggery traditions and the route toward Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
