Meenkara Dam

Meenkara Dam is an irrigation project in the Muthalamada area of Palakkad district, Keralam. Keralam’s Irrigation Department identifies it as an earth dam of zonal type, completed in 1964, and places the project within the Chittur side of the district. The reservoir supports the wider agricultural water network associated with the Gayathri river system, making it an important working landscape as well as a local sightseeing spot.

Visitors come mainly for the open reservoir views, surrounding greenery and quiet rural atmosphere rather than for a large collection of tourism facilities. The area can be combined naturally with nearby Chulliyar Dam, Kollengode and Muthalamada, creating a southern Palakkad circuit of reservoirs, villages and Western Ghats foothill scenery. As with other operational dams, access to engineering structures may be restricted and visitors should remain in permitted public areas.

Seasonal water levels affect the appearance of the reservoir, while early and late daylight often gives the surrounding fields and hills their strongest visual character.
