Thiruvalathoor Sree Randumoorthi Temple

Thiruvalathoor Sree Randumoorthi Temple, also known through tourism references as Thiruvalathoor Bhagavathi Temple, is an important Devi shrine near Palakkad in Kerala. The temple has two presiding forms of the Mother Goddess: Annapoorneswari and Mahishasura Mardini. Kerala Tourism and the Palakkad district administration highlight the shrine’s craftsmanship, particularly its woodwork, stone sculptures and traditional architectural features.

A koothambalam, the temple theatre associated with Kerala’s classical performance traditions, forms part of the complex, while a very large mizhavu percussion instrument is another distinctive feature. The outer walls are famed for thousands of stone lamps, creating a memorable ritual setting when illuminated. Local legend says divine builders left part of the temple wall unfinished at dawn, adding a strong folklore layer to the site’s history.

Located on the Palakkad–Chittur side, Thiruvalathoor is accessible as a cultural and pilgrimage stop from the city. Visitors should treat the temple as an active sacred space and follow local customs regarding dress, entry and photography.
