Thiruvambady Beach

Thiruvambady Beach is a relatively quiet beach on the northern side of Varkala’s main cliff area in Thiruvananthapuram district. Keralam Tourism also refers to it as Black Sand Beach because of the noticeably darker sand found along parts of the shoreline. Compared with Papanasam Beach, the atmosphere is generally more secluded, with fewer commercial distractions and a stronger emphasis on the natural meeting of sea, sand and cliff.

The beach is appealing for walking, coastal photography and watching the changing light over the Arabian Sea, and it can be combined easily with North Cliff and the wider Varkala beach circuit. Like other open-coast beaches in Keralam, however, wave and current conditions vary significantly by season. Visitors should not assume that a quiet-looking stretch is safe for swimming and should follow local warnings, especially during the monsoon.

Comfortable footwear is useful where access routes include slopes or uneven cliff-side paths.
