Paramekkavu Bhagavathy Temple

Paramekkavu Bhagavathy Temple is a major Devi shrine at Round East in central Thrissur, Kerala, close to Vadakkumnathan Temple and Thekkinkadu Maidan. Kerala Tourism describes it as one of the state’s prominent Bhagavathy temples, with Devi Vaishnavy worshipped as the principal deity. Its location in the heart of Thrissur makes it both a functioning religious centre and a major cultural landmark.

The temple is best known nationally for its role in Thrissur Pooram. Paramekkavu is one of the two principal sides of the festival, together with Thiruvambady, and its ceremonial procession toward the Vadakkumnathan precinct is a major visual feature of Pooram. Decorated elephants, percussion and changing parasol displays help create the festival’s exceptional scale and colour.

Outside Pooram season, visitors can appreciate the temple as part of a compact heritage walk through central Thrissur, with Vadakkumnathan Temple and Thekkinkadu Maidan close by. Entry, ritual access, photography and festival-day movement are governed by temple and local-authority rules, which should be respected.
