St. John's Anglican Church

St. John's Anglican Church is a distinctive heritage church in Thalassery, Kannur district, Kerala, and forms part of the town's historic harbour landscape. DTPC Kannur states that the church was built in 1869 through an endowment associated with Sir Edward Brennan, a Master Attendant at Thalassery Port remembered locally for his philanthropy.

Brennan is buried in the church cemetery, which also contains the graves of several people connected with the East India Company era. Architecturally, the church is modest rather than monumental, combining Anglican character with Gothic Revival influences. Its quiet appearance and cemetery offer a very different experience from the forts, trading streets and mosques elsewhere in Thalassery, while still reflecting the same period of maritime and colonial contact.

The Kerala State Department of Archaeology renovated the church in 2009, helping preserve it as part of the town's built heritage. Visitors interested in colonial history, architecture and the layered religious history of Malabar can include it in a wider Thalassery heritage walk.
