Gundert Park

Gundert Park is a small heritage-oriented public space in Thalassery, Kannur district, Kerala, centred on the memory of Hermann Gundert. Gundert lived and worked in the Thalassery area for many years and is remembered for major contributions to Malayalam language study, dictionary work and early Malayalam publishing. Gundert Bungalow museum at Illikkunnu preserves this wider legacy and includes a Gundert statue and exhibits connected with his life and work.

The town-side Gundert Park therefore fits naturally into a Thalassery heritage itinerary rather than functioning as a stand-alone full-day attraction. Visitors interested in language history, print culture and the colonial-era story of North Malabar can combine the park with Gundert Bungalow, Thalassery Fort and other nearby heritage sites. The park is best suited to a short visit, photographs and historical context while moving through central Thalassery.
