Bolgatty Palace and Island

Bolgatty Palace and Island is one of Kochi’s best-known heritage destinations, located at Mulavukad in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The palace was built by the Dutch in 1744 and later came under British use before eventually becoming part of Kerala’s tourism infrastructure. Today the historic building is associated with the KTDC Bolgatty Palace and Island Resort, allowing visitors to experience a surviving piece of colonial-era architecture in a landscaped island setting.

Kerala Tourism highlights the palace’s Dutch character, mature trees and lawns, as well as the golf course that surrounds the property. Bolgatty Island is also home to the Kochi International Marina and major event facilities, giving the destination a mix of heritage, leisure and waterfront activity. Even for visitors who are not staying at the resort, the wider Bolgatty area is notable for views across Kochi’s backwaters and its proximity to Marine Drive, Vallarpadam and central Ernakulam.
