Cherai Beach

Cherai Beach lies at Cherai on Vypeen Island in Ernakulam district, Kerala, north of central Kochi. It is widely promoted by Kerala Tourism as a swimmer-friendly beach and one of the region’s signature coastal getaways. The journey toward Cherai passes through low-lying fields and village scenery before reaching a shoreline edged by coconut palms and connected visually with nearby backwaters.

Chinese fishing nets are a familiar feature of the area, and Kerala Tourism also notes occasional dolphin sightings offshore. Visitors come for swimming when conditions permit, beach walks, sunsets, seashells, photography and the local seafood available around the tourist zone. The beach has developed a substantial accommodation and dining network, making it practical for both day trips and overnight stays.

Cherai’s appeal comes from the combination of Arabian Sea coastline, Kerala village landscape and backwater atmosphere, all within reach of Kochi and Cochin International Airport.
