Ithikkara River

The Ithikkara River is one of the notable river systems of Kollam district, Kerala. According to DTPC Kollam, it rises in the dense forests around Kulathupuzha in the Western Ghats and travels for about 56 kilometres. On its journey westward, the river passes through areas including Chathannoor and Pooyappally, feeds Paravur Lake and ultimately reaches the brackish coastal-water system connected to the Arabian Sea.

The settlement of Ithikkara lies around 15 kilometres from Kollam city and gives visitors an accessible glimpse of the river within a village landscape. Unlike a single monument or viewpoint, the attraction here is the waterway itself: green banks, changing light, local bridges and the quieter rhythm of riverside Kerala. It is particularly relevant for travellers interested in Kollam's natural drainage, backwater connections and rural scenery.
