About Kovalam Beach

Kovalam is the best-known beach destination in Thiruvananthapuram district and one of the iconic coastal tourism centres of Keralam. The resort area is formed around a series of crescent-shaped bays sheltered by rocky headlands and coconut-covered slopes. Its principal beach sections include Lighthouse Beach, Hawah or Eve’s Beach and Samudra Beach, each with a different balance of activity and tranquillity.

Visitors come for swimming when conditions permit, sunbathing, beach walks, catamaran experiences and organised water sports, while the surrounding lanes offer restaurants, shops, accommodation, Ayurveda treatments and yoga. The lighthouse above the southern beach is one of Kovalam’s defining visual landmarks and the coast is especially attractive around sunset. Nearby Vizhinjam, Chowara and Azhimala broaden the experience with fishing culture, heritage sites and quieter beaches.

Kovalam’s proximity to Thiruvananthapuram city and airport makes it a convenient base for combining a Keralam beach stay with sightseeing in the state capital.
