Lighthouse Beach

Lighthouse Beach is one of the three principal beach sections that make up the Kovalam tourism area in Thiruvananthapuram district, Keralam. The beach takes its name from the prominent red-and-white Vizhinjam lighthouse on the rocky headland above the southern end of the bay. Keralam Tourism highlights the approximately 36-metre lighthouse as the defining landmark of this stretch.

The curved sandy shore is one of Kovalam’s more active zones, with beachside restaurants, accommodation and access to organised recreation and water sports. Visitors come for sea views, swimming when conditions are suitable, photography and evening walks as the sun drops over the Arabian Sea. The elevated headland and lighthouse give the area a strong visual identity and make it easy to recognise in photographs of Kovalam.

Lighthouse Beach can be explored together with adjacent Hawah Beach and the quieter Samudra Beach for a complete view of Kovalam’s varied coastline.
