Siruvani Reservoir and Forests

Siruvani Reservoir and Forests is a protected water-and-forest landscape in Mannarkkad taluk of Palakkad district, Kerala. The Kerala Irrigation Department records the present Siruvani Dam as a masonry gravity structure across the Siruvani River, completed in 1984 primarily to supply drinking water to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Its catchment lies in reserved forest, giving the reservoir an unusually wild setting within the Western Ghats.

Kerala Tourism’s ecotourism information describes Siruvani in the Kalladikodan hill ranges as a bird-rich forest destination where regulated trekking and safari programmes can lead toward areas such as Keralamedu. The appeal is therefore broader than the dam alone: dense woodland, mountain streams, birdwatching and the sense of entering a protected catchment are central to the experience. Access is controlled because of both forest conservation and the strategic water-supply function, so visitors should use authorised programmes and confirm current permissions before travelling.
