About Thiruvananthapuram Zoological Park

Thiruvananthapuram Zoological Park occupies a substantial green area within the city’s museum and zoo precinct at Museum Junction. Established in the 19th century as an adjunct to the museum, it has evolved from an exhibition-oriented menagerie into a modern zoological institution with greater emphasis on conservation, education and species-appropriate enclosures. The landscaped grounds include mature vegetation, a natural lake and habitat used by free-ranging birds, butterflies and other urban wildlife, adding a botanical-garden feel to the visit.

The zoo maintains indigenous and exotic animals and also participates in conservation and animal-care programmes. Families, students and visitors interested in nature often combine the zoo with the nearby Napier Museum, Natural History Museum and Sree Chithra Art Gallery. Because the grounds are extensive, comfortable walking footwear, drinking water and sufficient time are useful.

Opening days, ticket rates and animal-viewing conditions may change, so travellers should check the current schedule before visiting.
